Trump wants an ICE hardliner running DHS. The Senate must say NO.
Friend, Donald Trump has nominated Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin to replace Kristi Noem at the Department of Homeland Security — I’m voting NO. Mullin isn’t some neutral nominee stepping in to clean up a broken agency; he’s an extreme MAGA Republican. He has spent years defending ICE and attacking anyone who tries to rein in its abuses. When Americans demanded accountability after deadly encounters with federal immigration agents, Mullin dismissed the concerns and praised ICE agents as “red-blooded American patriots.” But the rot in DHS is much deeper than any individual. The Department of Homeland Security is already facing a crisis of accountability. Communities across the country have watched masked agents conduct aggressive enforcement operations, while families demand answers after deadly encounters involving federal immigration officers. Instead of fixing the problem, Trump wants to hand the agency to one of ICE’s loudest defenders. We need to rein in ICE, and the Senate should not rubber-stamp a nominee who has made clear he will double down on the same policies that led us here. If you agree the Senate should reject Markwayne Mullin and demand real accountability at DHS, add your name now → Sincerely, Chuck Schumer | This email was sent to .
