Pamela,
The Trump administration might think we're distracted, but we're not. We haven't forgotten about the two journalists who were arrested – which was not only unprecedented, but unlawful. Georgia Fort and Don Lemon were both arrested for doing their jobs and reporting on anti-ICE protests in Minnesota.
Attorney General Pam Bondi is the nation's top law enforcement officer, but she's also breaking the law. Tell her to drop all unfounded charges against Georgia Fort and Don Lemon now.
There's video evidence of the event, and it's clear that neither Fort or Lemon were interfering, obstructing, or intimidating in ways that broke the law. It's not against the law to report on a protest. And it's not against the law to ask difficult questions. Arresting journalists for doing their job is very reminiscent of Germany in 1945.
The Trump administration thinks we've forgotten about this in light of everything else going on. But we haven't. We know it's illegal to arrest people for doing their necessary jobs. Pam Bondi needs to hear from us today.
Pam Bondi and the Justice Department must drop all charges against journalists Georgia Fort and Don Lemon, before arresting journalists for doing their job becomes commonplace.
In solidarity,
Mike Phelan
