Last week, I opened up the People's State of the Union address backed by dozens of leaders in Congress and their guests—real people who have been harmed by Trump's horrific policies—in the largest boycott of the State of the Union address in U.S. history.
This historic boycott couldn't have happened without your persistent pressure on our leaders to take action to protect our communities through calls, petition signatures, and activism. You picked courage over silence, and because of that we were able to achieve something massive together.
The People's State of the Union was watched by over 4 million people. That's more than the average daily viewership of CNN and Fox News combined.1 Because of you and the MoveOn community, together with MeidasTouch, we reached more people than billion-dollar news companies do on an average day.
Because of our People's State of the Union, instead of hearing Trump's lies, millions of people heard from Sonya, whose partner Yari has leukemia and has been detained without access to proper health care, despite being a green card holder. People heard from Sharlene Rochard, a survivor of Jeffrey Epstein, who spoke about trafficking, abuse, and the systems that fail to protect victims.
Courage breeds courage. You showed up when Republicans attacked our health care and when ICE kidnapped Liam and murdered Keith Porter, Renée Good, Alex Pretti, Dr. Linda Davis, and many, many more.
Our People's State of the Union event meant that millions of people saw teachers, partners, nurses, and people who looked just like them not being scared but overcoming their nerves, getting up onstage, and talking about how Trump is hurting our communities. You helped millions of people see folks just like them boldly pushing back against the most powerful man in the world.
The bravery of everyday folks taking the stage means that many of the people who watched will take their first actions, make their first phone calls, and show up to their first protests.
Why? Because Trump's lies don't stand a chance against our shared stories. We know this because last Tuesday night marked the smallest audience he's ever had for a State of the Union.2
Once again, we proved that when we are loud enough, our demands for justice can't be ignored. We called for action and members of Congress showed up, but we're not stopping there.
Want to support MoveOn's work? Donald Trump's authoritarian takeover intensifies every day—but history shows that authoritarian regimes crumble when just 3.5% of people rise up together in sustained resistance. That's why MoveOn is helping mobilize millions, from massive No Kings protests to our nonstop work to get ICE out of our neighborhoods. This moment demands mass, disciplined, people-powered resistance, and MoveOn can reach, train, and organize at a scale unmatched in the progressive movement. Will you chip in to fuel this urgent and critical organizing?
