"Trump Officials Attended a Summit of Election Deniers Who Want the President to Take Over the Midterms" —ProPublica | Pamela, Here's the thing about backroom meetings in politics: sometimes, those dealings are exactly as devious as you might fear. For example: recently, the same network of anti-democracy extremists that tried to overturn the 2020 election met with senior Trump Regime officials about how to take control of the 2026 midterms. They think Trump can declare a "national emergency" about elections (there isn't one) as pretext to seize federal power over voting (that's unconstitutional, and will be quickly challenged in court). All so Trump can move to restrict voting access. All so he can try to avoid getting held accountable by the American people this November. A White House lawyer who was at the meeting agreed to take the group's ideas back to Trump. And we've already seen a draft of a leaked executive order that could attempt to put this unlawful plan into motion. But because our team runs a massive research operation to track new threats like this, including the anticipated executive order, we're able to get the word out, help prepare proactive response strategies with the pro-democracy movement, and drive institutional accountability — like when we helped The New York Times expose the "national emergency" scheme back in October, which prompted U.S. senators to publicly warn the White House that such action would be illegal. We're defending free and fair elections for 2026 and beyond — and we're counting on ongoing support from this grassroots team to continue powering this pro-voter work. Please chip in if you can as we face escalating attacks from anti-democracy forces.
