Pamela - Before Trump launched a war of choice against Iran, the Washington Post ran this headline:
Yeah, you read that right. The Trump administration asked for more money for our military, yet they have no idea how to spend it. I guess someone gave him the idea to launch an open-ended, billion-dollar a day war that will make all of our lives more expensive.
Imagine: Getting all the money in the world for an unnecessary venture and…you have no idea what to spend it on. With the money we're spending on militarization, we could do so much to make America affordable.
Tell Congress that they must divert this funding to human-centered programs, not the U.S. military.
There are so many other ways the government can utilize this funding, rather than continuing to grow military extremism in our country. Here are just a few ways we can be helping the American public:
- Increase budgets for Medicaid, Medicare and the Affordable Care Act
- Make college free
- Universal health care
- Affordable child care
But instead, the Trump administration is prioritizing bloating our military budget beyond belief. We know where their priorities lay. That's why we need to tell Congress to stop funding our military and instead, fund programs that actually help Americans.
In solidarity,
Mike Phelan
