Pamela,
Voting by mail is incredibly common – 34 other countries offer it – and secure.
But the Trump administration has made it its mission to eliminate it. And he's willing to take the entire USPS down with it if necessary.
As part of a series of drastic cutbacks, Trump's handpicked Postmaster General will no longer guarantee real-time postmarks for mail. This change makes it easier for MAGA states to challenge mail ballots―and provides a pretext for eliminating vote by mail entirely..
Tell Congress to demand the USPS resume real-time postmarks now and save Vote By Mail!
Voting by mail allows for more people to exercise their constitutional right to vote. People with mobility issues, with disabilities, veterans, rural voters, and more all have the right to cast their ballot. Anyone who lives more than 50 miles from a postal service mega processing center are hit the hardest – which is most of the country.
Trump and his Republican cronies don't want everyone to vote; they only want people to vote who will vote for them. Well, that's not how it works! Both Republicans and Democrats depend on timely postmarks to ensure their votes count. A vote should be counted, no matter who it's for.
Public pressure works in scenarios like this, [Firstname/friend]. It worked when Congress intervened to protect election mail in past cycles. It's even worked to block the last two nominees Trump has tried to put on the board.
Now, let's tell Congress to demand the USPS restore real-time postmarks ahead of November's midterm elections.
In solidarity,
Mike Phelan
