No excuses for bombing children. Demand an investigation into the elementary school strike in Iran.
Dear MoveOn member,
The deadly and horrifying strike against an Iranian elementary school on February 28 resulted in the death of nearly 175 people, including more than 100 children. And the U.S. military is responsible.1
Families, educators, and children across the world deserve to go to school without fear that their places of learning will be bombed. There is no excuse for what occurred, and every single politician and government official should be doing everything in their power to make sure it does not happen again.
Instead of taking responsibility and working diligently to understand what occurred, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Donald Trump initially spread misinformation about the attack and failed to respond with the gravity and seriousness that the devastating bombing warranted.
Will you sign the petition demanding that a full and transparent investigation be launched immediately, and all parties responsible be held accountable?
Failure to demonstrate due diligence and protect civilian lives is a clear violation of international humanitarian law. But Secretary Hegseth has already shown complete disregard for civilians—instead recklessly and irresponsibly glorifying war.
Hegseth has sensationalized violence—saying that the U.S. will not show mercy, warning of "death and destruction from the sky all day long."2
"This was never meant to be a fair fight, and it is not a fair fight. We are punching them while they're down, which is exactly how it should be."3
It's clear that Hegseth considers the death of children and the violation of safe civilian spaces like schools to be an acceptable casualty of war. It's not, and we can't allow the inhumanity and cruelty of this administration to erase the atrocity of what happened.
Add your name to the petition to demand the full truth of what led to and followed the heartbreaking bombing of the Shajarah Tayyebeh elementary school—and to demand accountability!
This is not a partisan issue—it's a moral one.
The Tomahawk cruise missile that struck the Shajarah Tayyebeh elementary school is one of the most precise missiles in the world, designed for accuracy. This wasn't an accident. It struck the school because that's what it was targeted to do.4
It is the most egregious incident that has come out since Trump launched his illegal war with Iran, but it isn't an isolated incident. Homes. Hospitals. Schools. Business centers. Humanitarian sites. There have been multiple reports of civilian spaces devastated by bombs.5
Trump and Hegseth are testing the boundaries of what they can get away with—domestically and globally. If we look away from bombing children, the depravity of what this administration will do is unimaginable.
War is not inevitable, and we should do everything in our power to prevent unnecessary loss of life. Demand an investigation into the Shajarah Tayyebeh school bombing and make it clear that Americans will not be silent as the U.S. military kills children and civilians.
Trump unilaterally started a war with Iran. And he made his intentions clear, that he will "make it virtually impossible for Iran to ever be built back, as a Nation, again—Death, Fire, and Fury will reign upon them."6
That is what unchecked power looks like.
And everyday children and families are paying the price. It's unacceptable.
There are laws, even in war, and if our government violated those laws, we—the people—deserve to know. And the families of the Iranian children who died in the rubble of war also deserve to know.
We can't turn the other way. We have to hold our government and military accountable. And that starts by demanding the truth.
Thanks for all you do.
