In a small community in Bangladesh, 16-year-old Mim* is already a leader — advocating for children’s rights and challenging some of her community's deeply harmful practices. She often felt unsafe and uncertain about her future since child abuse, child labor and child marriage were prevalent in her community. That started to change when she joined a Save the Children-supported SCOPE program called Childspace. Through this program, she learned about child rights and child protection. It was a safe space for her to learn, play, spend time with friends — and find her voice. She used her newfound knowledge and confidence to directly address harmful practices in her community. When Mim found out that one of her friends, who was just 14, was planning to marry a 17-year-old boy, she stepped in to stop it. “Stopping child marriage is my biggest achievement, because I could save two people from harm,” she said. Today, Mim has taken on a leadership role at Childspace, leading sessions and teaching other girls how to protect themselves and speak up. Friend, during Women’s History Month, we must continue to break down barriers and ensure girls and women everywhere get equal opportunities, education and respect. Honor the women who shaped your life by making a donation through our Gift Guide to help educate a girl. Thank you, Save the Children Our Promise: By selecting a gift through our Save the Children Gift Guide, you’re making a donation to Save the Children that supports one or more specified program areas, which will be used where it’s needed most within those programs. Each gift represents resources, services or support for programs provided across Save the Children’s worldwide movement and may change due to environmental, programmatic and economic considerations. A portion of your gift will be used to support Save the Children’s general operations. |
