Friends, Today, I wish a heartfelt Eid Mubarak to everyone celebrating Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of the monthlong observance of Ramadan. My colleague Tanjum has been sharing her personal experience with you over the past several weeks as she observes Ramadan during a year when so many are facing such extreme hardship. It breaks my heart to know there are so many children whose Ramadan has been marred by fear, aching bellies and the trauma of living through war.   Samira* was forced to flee Gaza with her three young children after her 9 year-old son Ramadan*, who is visually impaired, was severely injured in an airstrike. At a Save the Children center in Egypt, they received vital educational and psychosocial support, helping both Samira and her children recover and rediscover hope. For mothers and children everywhere, my colleagues at Save the Children are working around the clock to bring hope where war, hunger, poverty and other persistent challenges have stolen far too many childhoods. We do this because we share a belief that children’s needs must come first, always and everywhere — and I know you share this belief, too.
