| Petition to Congress: We urge you to speak out in opposition to the politically-motivated federal funding review of 14 states and Washington D.C., and to the threats to illegally cut off funding to states. |
Trump announced a federal "funding review" for 14 Democratic-led states and said he would withhold funding from states with sanctuary cities — an illegal move to stop money already allocated by Congress.
"The Trump administration is targeting states that didn't vote for him — including my home state of Vermont," Senator Bernie Sanders said. "Using federal power to punish political opponents is anti-democratic and blatantly illegal."
As Trump's far-right security forces terrorize the people of Minneapolis, the White House continues its authoritarian takeover in every way it can — including this targeted federal funding "review" in states that Trump doesn't like. Congress must shut down this unlawful attack on the American people.

This is not the first time that Trump and his "grim reaper" Russ Vought (the architect of Project 2025 and head of the White House budget office) have tried to block funding from going to blue states. During the government shutdown last year, Vought attempted to claw back billions in funding from states led by Democrats, but a federal judge ruled it illegal.
Senator Jeff Merkley also condemned Trump's weaponization of funding, calling it "political retribution" and a "blatant and dangerous abuse of power."
Congress must stand up for the law and the critical infrastructure, education, child care, social services, and health care funding that belongs to the people in these 14 states.
Sign the petition: Stop Trump's illegal federal funding attack!
