Dear MoveOn member, Republican Senate Majority Leader John Thune just called Democrats' proposed ICE accountability reforms "totally unrealistic," and claimed they must be trying to satisfy MoveOn or other "left wing special interest groups." Here's what we know: First, these reforms are the bare minimum. These commonsense accountability measures are overdue, and most Americans don't want another dime to go to ICE. The horrors that these masked, untrained, and armed for war ICE agents have inflicted on our communities is a direct result of Congress writing ICE a blank check to carry out these atrocities, no strings attached. These reforms alone won't be sufficient unless we stop funding ICE's terror. Second, Sen. Thune and other members of Congress need a reminder about who MoveOn actually is. MoveOn is a grassroots, people-powered movement made up of millions of members just like you, from all over the country. Millions of everyday working Americans who want our elected officials to stop funding Trump's violent authoritarian agenda and start using our tax dollars to help the very people they're supposed to represent. These same members are the people funding MoveOn's work through small-dollar donations, unlike Sen. Thune and his colleagues who rely on Super PACs and corporate donors. MoveOn is not a "special interest group," we are constituents who are fed up with members of Congress, like Sen. Thune, forgetting that they work for us.
