Pamela,
Black communities have always been on the frontlines of the climate crisis and at the forefront of the solutions. From fighting environmental racism to building people-powered movements for clean air, water, and energy, Black leaders continue to shape what a just climate future looks like.
This Black History Month, we're uplifting Black-led and Black-centered organizations shaping the future by building power in their communities, advancing bold solutions, and reminding us that climate action cannot be separated from racial justice. We're fighting for a safe, livable, and affordable future for all, not just the billionaires.
Get to know these incredible organizations and follow their work:
Black Girl Environmentalist is mobilizing a new generation of Black girls, women, and gender-expansive people to lead on climate, policy, and environmental storytelling.
Climate Revival works to ensure Black communities are not only protected from climate impacts, but are resourced and positioned to lead the clean energy transition.
Hip Hop Caucus harnesses the power of culture, music, and grassroots organizing to mobilize communities of color around climate action, civic engagement, and social justice.
The NAACP Center for Environmental and Climate Justice continues to fight to end environmental racism, advocate for strong climate policy, and protect Black communities from disproportionate climate harms.
The Solutions Project funds and amplifies climate justice solutions led by Black, Indigenous, and communities of color. This month, they are hosting the 6th annual Black Climate Week from February 21–28, spotlighting the Black leadership shaping the climate movement nationwide.
WEACT for Environmental Justice has organized Harlem and Northern Manhattan residents for decades to demand clean air, equitable climate policy, and environmental health for frontline communities.
Young, Gifted & Green centers Black women and girls as climate leaders, advancing education, advocacy, and solutions that protect both people and the planet.
The climate crisis is accelerating, and so is the need for bold, justice-centered leadership. Take a moment to explore these organizations, follow their work, and learn how they're building power and protecting communities every day.
Thanks for being with us in the fight for climate justice,
