Tell Congress: We urge you to investigate Dr. Oz to see if he violated FTC policy on undisclosed endorsements and influencer marketing. | Dr. Oz has long promoted questionable diet schemes and Big Pharma products, and now it seems his social media advertising may have violated consumer protection rules. Advocacy group, Public Citizen, just sent a letter to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) urging them to investigate Oz's failure to disclose financial ties with companies he's promoting on Instagram. If Dr. Oz is already violating financial disclosure rules, he'll be an ethics disaster at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The FTC must investigate Dr. Oz and hold him accountable for any violations of consumer protection rules. Sign the petition: Urge the FTC to investigate Dr. Oz! The FTC's influencer marketing laws are clear and exist to protect consumers from deceptive advertising. Public Citizen said, "Dr. Oz's apparent violations of these standards must be immediately investigated – and, as a prospective nominee to be administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, he should be asked to explain why he failed to follow FTC rules and if he thinks it matters." As head of CMS, Oz would be in charge of making decisions that could be very lucrative for pharmaceutical, insurance, and other health corporations. And Dr. Oz has investments in CVS and UnitedHealth. These conflicts of interest are disqualifying — and Oz's apparent failure to disclose financial ties to companies he promoted on social media shows a willingness to flout ethics standards. The FTC must investigate these claims immediately. Sign the petition: Investigate Dr. Oz! |
