Dear MoveOn member,
This week, around the globe and here at home, activists have been raising their voices and demanding that our elected officials take immediate and meaningful action to curb the most catastrophic impacts of the climate crisis.
Thousands of protesters are gathered in Glasgow, Scotland, yesterday outside of the United Nations climate summit, calling on world leaders to stop listening to billionaires and corporate polluters and put forth a real, comprehensive plan to tackle climate change.1
And here at home, young activists held a 14-day hunger strike to protest one of America's biggest coal barons, Senator Joe Manchin—who single-handedly weakened the climate provisions in President Biden's Build Back Better Agenda.2
We are at a critical crossroads in the fight to stop the worst impacts of climate change, and each of us has an opportunity to wear our values on our sleeves, spread the message, and demand action from our elected officials.
In September, the world's top climate scientists came together to warn that we're dangerously close to running out of time to stop the worst effects of climate change—but the report from the U.N. shows that we still can protect the future of our planet if we come together and take action right now.3
Lives are on the line, and we're running out of time to act.
No person on Earth will be spared the catastrophic consequences of the climate crisis if we don't act immediately to end our dependence on fossil fuels. The most devastating impacts will hit poorer countries, as well as marginalized communities in the United States and other wealthy nations.
Thanks for all you do.
