Dear MoveOn member,
After a multiracial and multigenerational coalition of voters elected a Democratic majority, House Democrats have passed the Build Back Better Act, a historic investment in our communities. Along with the infrastructure bill and the American Rescue Plan, The Build Back Better Act will make strides to address the climate crisis and generations of systemic inequities, as well as revitalize our communities that were ravaged by the ongoing pandemic.1
And your representative, Jamie Raskin, joined fellow Democrats to deliver this momentous agenda!
Will you sign a letter to thank Rep. Raskin for voting to pass the Build Back Better Act?
Together, we've spent years signing petitions, making phone calls, holding rallies, lobbying our members of Congress, working to elect progressive candidates up and down the ballot, and so much more to support the policies that will now be included in the Build Back Better Act—like lowering prescription drug costs for millions; making the wealthy pay more of their fair share; expanding access to education, affordable housing, and public transportation; lowering the cost of child care; reversing the effects of climate change; and so much more.
And over the last few months of negotiations, MoveOn members and our allies advocated for the most comprehensive and transformational Build Back Better Act possible by leading actions and demonstrations, powering digital and TV ads, making tens of thousands of phone calls, taking over the homepage of the Washington Post, supporting progressives as they held the line for our most vulnerable communities, and even standing outside the Capitol for hours in the rain to cheer on Democrats to keep pushing through the obstruction as the GOP delayed the vote.
Now that the House has passed the Build Back Better Act, there is great momentum and urgency as the fight heads to the U.S Senate. But the right wing is already pushing back. Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy spent over eight hours on the House floor calling Build Back Better a socialist power grab and spewing hate to try and stop Democrats from helping our communities invest in a sustainable future.2 Rep. Raskin needs to know that you, as a constituent, have his back—because it's likely that House members will have to vote on Build Back Better again if the Senate makes changes to the bill.
For too long, tax-dodging corporations and the ultra-wealthy have exploited workers, hoarded their record profits, and gotten in the way of real relief for working families. Enough. As the Build Back Better Act makes it way through the Senate, we must continue to fight to keep its investments intact. We won't let corporate lobbyists force choices between funding hearing coverage for Medicare users or universal pre-K or a civilian climate corps. Our communities can't wait. We all deserve an America where everyone can thrive.
Today, we can celebrate this win we've all been organizing for and let it energize us for the fight ahead in the Senate.
When the Senate passes the Build Back Better Act, generations will benefit from cleaner air and water, affordable healthcare, expanded education and public housing programs, increased food security, and more.
Together, we'll keep fighting until the historic Build Back Better Act reaches President's Biden's desk and is signed into law.
Thank you for all you do.
