First, the Trump administration sent ICE agents across the country, violating both state and local law.
Then, ICE agents entered homes without warrants, zip-tied children, and fired tear gas at peaceful protestors, journalists, and clergy.
Now, they must be held to the same standards as other law enforcement and be arrested and prosecuted for their crimes.
These ICE agents are blatantly committing crimes in broad daylight. When they assault civilians, damage property, or detain people unlawfully, those actions fall under state criminal codes and those perpetrators must be held accountable. And it seems like they like flaunting the fact that they're breaking the law, thinking they have impunity with this presidential administration.
We know that Trump thinks he and his allies are invincible; look at his rolling pardons of the criminals who participated in January 6th. But in this case, state laws do apply. And we know that governors like Gavin Newsom and J.B. Pritzker will hold these criminals - including Trump - accountable. We know that they'll punish ICE agents under state law, a conviction that cannot be pardoned by the president.
State-level enforcement guarantees that accountability can't be erased by political power, no matter what Trump and his cronies think. That's why it's crucial to reach out to your state's attorney general, governor, and law enforcement leaders to arrest and prosecute ICE agents who break both state and local laws.
Thank you,
