"Our jails are killing people because of a culture of impunity and neglect within the LA County Sheriff's Department, which runs the jails," said Michelle Parris, program director of Vera California.
This is a humanitarian crisis. We know the solution: invest in treatment and community-based services that meet people's needs to bring down the jail population and make us all safer.
