Pamela, Trump's $1.1 billion cuts to PBS and NPR have gutted independent, free media across the country.
The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) - the backbone of PBS and NPR's funding - was forced to shut down at the end of September due to Trump's cuts. [1]
And already, communities are feeling the cuts. PBS Kids had to cut 25% of its staff and cancelled community events across the country [2], and local stations like New Jersey PBS have been forced to shut down completely. [3]
How important do you think it is to restore funding for PBS, NPR, and other independent public media outlets?
Pamela, for some Americans in rural communities and small towns, public broadcasting is often the only trusted news source they rely on.
That's because PBS and NPR are required to be objective by law. [4] Meanwhile, corporate media is settling multi-million-dollar lawsuits with the Trump administration and self-censoring to avoid retaliation.
And that's exactly what Trump wants. Without independent media, there will be fewer voices telling the truth about his destructive agenda.
Now more than ever, we have to stand strong in our fight for public media. Please take a minute to fill out our Independent Media Survey >>
