| Petition to Congress: We urge you to protect the American people from the domestic deployment of military forces. Please act quickly to restrict the powers of the outdated, dangerously broad Insurrection Act. |
Trump has been battling the courts to deploy armed National Guard troops to Chicago and Portland. Now he's threatening to defy the courts and invade cities across the country with soldiers by invoking the Insurrection Act.
The Insurrection Act gives the White House extraordinary discretion to declare that a domestic "insurrection" is underway and to deploy U.S. military forces against the American people. J.B. Pritzker is warning about this very eventuality: Trump's troops creating violent chaos in cities as a pretext for invoking the outdated, insidious law. And Trump recently said, "If I had to enact it, I would do that."
Congress must get rid of this outdated, dangerous law that Trump could use for an unprecedented armed authoritarian takeover.

The White House's violent escalations in Chicago and Portland could lead to a constitutional crisis — and Trump on the fast track to a full authoritarian takeover.
Stephen Miller continues to ramp up the rhetoric against anyone opposing Trump's strongman rule, including an Oregon judge who ruled against Trump's National Guard deployment to Portland. Miller said the judge's ruling was tantamount to a "legal insurrection" and that there "is an organized terrorist attack on the federal government and its officers."
Trump, Miller, and their MAGA allies won't slow down in their rhetoric and their violent invasion of America's cities. Congress must take a stand and stop Trump's military takeover. Democracy and the rule of law are on the line.
Sign the petition: Don't let Trump abuse the Insurrection Act!
