Pamela: Thousands of National Guard troops have already been deployed to cities across the country — where Trump has ordered them to do everything from "protecting" Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities to assisting law enforcement efforts.[1]
Communities are on edge and people are scared. No matter, Trump has publicly signaled he could send soldiers to Baltimore, New Orleans, and San Francisco next, and threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act, mobilizing even more troops against civilians.
No matter which way you cut it, it's NOT what our cities wanted or asked for. It's NOT what our servicemembers signed up for. And, it's NOT making anyone, anywhere, any safer.
Every governor in the country now faces the same choice: Push back against these domestic deployments, or allow the Trump takeover to continue.
We're not leaving it up to them, Pamela, which is why we're driving letters to governors, letting them know where we, the people, stand.
Tell Your Governor: Don't deploy. Don't comply. Resist Trump's occupation of our cities.
| ACT NOW |
Trump has weaponized the National Guard for his "war from within," where he's using our cities as "training grounds for our military." These are the actions of a dictator, but Trump can't change the fact that we live in a democracy — where states aren't powerless.
The law requires a state's National Guard to remain under state control with very few exceptions. That means governors hold the power to resist: they can refuse to cooperate, sue to block illegal deployments, and defend their citizens from Trump's escalating attempts to use state forces as instruments of fear and control.
States have fought back against Trump's authoritarian takeover in the courts and won before — and we refuse to let Trump trample on our democracy without resistance at every turn.
Governors don't just have the power to push back against Trump's authoritarian takeover; they have an obligation to protect our communities.
We're here to remind them of that, Pamela, and you can too by sending a letter to your governor today.
Thank you for working for peace,
The Win Without War team
