Pamela, Over the past year, Americans have watched helplessly as the U.S. government spent over $22 billion helping Israel's military commit war crimes in Palestine and Lebanon. Now we have a chance to block $20 billion more. Israel was attacked on October 7, 2023, but that does not give it a blank check for atrocity. But that's what Netanyahu's government has done, with the United States' backing the whole way. Israel's military has violently displaced millions of people, burned families alive in refugee tents, systematically destroyed Gaza's healthcare system, and stopped food and medical supplies from reaching thousands of starving Palestinian children. U.S. taxpayers funded 70% of Israel's attacks in the past year, which have killed and injured at least 170,000 people in Palestine and Lebanon. To block the Biden administration's recently announced weapons transfers, Senator Bernie Sanders has introduced Joint Resolutions of Disapproval. If passed, these resolutions would block new shipments of U.S.-made weapons and military equipment that have been used to kill children and other civilians in Palestine and Lebanon, including healthcare workers and journalists. As Senator Senators explained, "Sending more weapons is not only immoral, it is also illegal." Israel's government is clearly violating international laws, which is why most countries in the United Nations have called to end arms shipments to Israel. Continued military aid violates not only international laws, but also U.S. laws, the Biden administration's own arms transfer policy, and what the majority of Americans want. Senator Sanders is forcing a vote soon―can you urge your Senators to vote yes on Bernie Sanders's Joint Resolutions of Disapproval to block $20 billion in US weapons to Israel? Thank you, Progress America |
