Pamela -- Back in December 2016, things were looking pretty friggin' bleak. Trump and Republicans had won a trifecta. There was a daily barrage of news about white nationalists getting jobs in the White House. Some Democratic leaders were talking about "working together" with an administration that was promising mass deportations, the repeal of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and a host of other horrific policies that'd cause significant real-world pain. Our founders Leah Greenberg and Ezra Levin began drafting a Google Doc to outline how ordinary folks could take local action to resist the Trump agenda. It was called the Indivisible Guide. And within weeks, thousands of Indivisible groups organically popped up all over the country, using lessons from the guide to defend their communities and our democracy. To support those groups, we started this organization, Indivisible. Together, our movement helped save the ACA. We won the largest midterm margins ever in 2018 to retake the House. And eventually, we defeated Trump in 2020 and prevented some of his most dangerous policies from coming to pass. To our immense sadness and rage, we find ourselves in a similar -- though admittedly scarier -- moment today, and Trump is praying we've got no fight left in us. Like all fascists, he craves our acquiescence, and wants us to feel alone and powerless. But we are not powerless. We choose to fight back. And tonight, we're releasing our plan to do it -- Indivisible: A Practical Guide to Democracy on the Brink. Join us, thousands of others from across the country, and Senator Elizabeth Warren tonight at 8:30pm ET / 5:30pm PT for the release of the new Indivisible guide. What you'll find in the new guide - Strategies to make a difference where you live -- whether you are in a red, blue, or purple state, we'll have recommendations for how you can leverage local power to disrupt Trump's assault on democracy.
- How to protect yourself and vulnerable neighbors -- We still live in a democracy, but we expect to face increasingly scary, authoritarian conditions. We'll need to find strength in solidarity.
- Tactics that work, and tactics that don't -- We call it a practical guide for a reason. Applying lessons gleaned from staffing elected officials, we'll tell you the best ways to actually get the attention of your local and federal representatives and how you can pressure them to obey their oaths and protect their constituents.
- Everything you need to start an Indivisible group -- There's plenty you can do as an individual. But when we band together, that's when big things start to happen. You don't need to be a seasoned activist to start a group. You just need some determination, a few like-minded friends/neighbors, and the tips in this guide.
- And ideally, some renewed hope, if you need it.
What you won't find in the new guide - Any pretense that we have all the answers.
This is a moment for humility. Our movement has achieved an incredible amount, but it wasn't enough to stop a second Trump term. There are some loud voices out there claiming to know exactly what went wrong and exactly how to fix it, but that ain't us or anyone we'd put a lot of faith in. We're entering uncharted territory. We have a pretty good sense of what we're up against, but there are going to be curveballs along the way. Some of the tactics that have worked in the past might not hold up to the new reality we find ourselves in. So we're going to experiment. We're going to iterate. We're going to listen to the people doing this work in all 50 states, and we're going to learn from allies across the globe waging their own battles against far-right autocrats. If we all tap into the power we have in every corner of our country, we can blunt the damage of Trump 2.0 as we build toward a win in 2026. We're on the brink, but, working together, we can live to fight another day. What's next Tonight, we're going to walk through the new guide chapter by chapter. Then we'll post it to our website so it'll be there whenever you're ready to use it. We've got more than 30,000 people registered for the call already. Sadly for Trump, it appears we've got some fight left in us. We know our communities, our freedoms, and our democracy are worth fighting for. And though it might not feel like it right now, we believe that we will win. If you haven't registered yet, we hope you'll join us (and Sen. Warren) at 8:30pm ET / 5:30pm PT as we roll out our new guide and prepare to rise to this moment. In solidarity, Indivisible Team |
