Let's face it, a man whose bottom lines rely heavily on government spending is the last person who should be making decisions about it.   Musk's companies alone got $3 billion in federal contracts just last year – but because he and Ramaswamy would not be actual government officials in their "DOGE" commission, they won't have to disclose their financial information or let go of any lucrative government contracts. [1] Our Constitution clearly grants our elected representatives in Congress the power of the purse, a crucial piece of our checks and balances.   So let's be clear – while the "Department of Government Efficiency" could well go up in smoke in the next few weeks, if it doesn't, it could quickly pose a grave threat to our system of checks and balances.
