Dear MoveOn member,
It's a scary time in America.
Any other candidate who narrowly won the presidency by 2% of the vote would recognize the need to bring the nation together and comfort those concerned with the hateful rhetoric of the campaign season.1
Donald Trump is not that candidate.
In his first major interview since winning the election, Trump promised to make his sweeping mass deportation plan his first priority upon taking office.2 He also has promised that, on Day 1, he will revoke all Biden policies on gender-affirming care and ask Congress to pass legislation recognizing only gender assigned at birth.3
Donald Trump wants the American people to feel isolated and afraid—that's why he's already escalating his threats to attack immigrants, women, and the LGBTQ+ community. We cannot wait one moment to begin our efforts to defend communities under attack and fight for our freedoms.
In the wake of Trump's win, it's easy to feel alone in our pro-democracy values—and that's exactly how the MAGA right wants us to feel.
But the truth is, we are not alone. Nearly 72 million voters chose Vice President Kamala Harris. Thursday night, more than 130,000 people joined us on our movement-wide mass call to discuss our next steps! There are millions of people out there ready to take action for these values.
Unfortunately, there are also people who are taking Trump's win as license to take their hate public.
Black people in several states have received vile, threatening text messages from anonymous phone numbers.4 The Trevor Project and the Rainbow Youth Project—which serve LGBTQ+ youth—have seen a spike in calls to their crisis hotlines since Trump's election.5
The most vulnerable in our communities must know they are not alone and that we are committed to fighting to protect them in every way we can and to stop Trump's takeover.
We're getting started right away. We need you with us.
