Pamela, Donald Trump will be sworn back in as President in January. Despite leading one of the most pro-union administrations in history, Joe Biden's chosen successor Kamala Harris lost ground with working-class voters. There are plenty of explanations for that―but here's what we're stuck on: working people are fed up with the status quo. Which makes sense in a world where our democracy has been systematically undermined by the billionaire class. That's the only way to explain the political ping-ponging of the last several administrations We're looking for a leader who will see us. Who knows us. Who knows what it's like to be a McDonald's fry cook, not just play one on TV. After Trump won in 2016, there was a stampede to shore up democratic institutions. Suburban parents organized themselves with Indivisible and MoveOn groups, and subscriptions to the New York Times and Washington Post surged. But when workers started organizing unions―at Starbucks, Amazon, Trader Joe's and more―we didn't get half the attention that a tiktoker lipsyncing to Trump speeches did. That has to change. No politician will save us. Together we need to build a labor movement big enough to exert its own gravity and pull policy toward us. That's why we formed the Labor Force―because at a time when support for unions is higher than it's been in a generation, we still have a lot of work to do before that support translates to lasting change. Organizing workers face big obstacles before they win their unions. And corporations like Trader Joe's and Amazon drag their unions to court over and over and over again before they agree to even begin to bargain for a fair contract. That drains workers' already-meager resources and keeps unions from having anything to show members. The Labor Force is here to be a bridge between the union movement and people fighting to make the world a better place. Our fights are entwined―so let's fight together. The Labor Force is here to build working-class power by supporting the expansion of the union movement. It's the only way to save our country. Can you pitch in $5 or $10 to build this movement? We're on your side, The Labor Force |
