Dear Pamela, The result of the 2024 presidential election is clear. American voters have chosen to embrace—or give a pass to—xenophobia, racism, and misogyny. So many of us—because of who we are, the color of our skin, where we are from, where we live, and who we love—are justifiably unnerved.
Today, I feel what you feel: numb, angry, mystified, and disappointed. But tomorrow must be different.
We know that there are real challenges posed for Vera's criminal justice and immigration reform agenda. President-elect Trump has vowed to carry out the largest mass deportation in American history, and Project 2025 calls for a national policy of stop and frisk.
Our values—race equity, respect, independence, collaboration, and commitment—help chart a way forward when the future feels uncertain. Vera will still be on the front lines every single day of the Trump presidency to protect the rights of all people while fighting back against the harmful policies laid out during his campaign. We know that you are with us because you also choose to fight for justice. Fight on, we will, and we must. And while you may not feel it in this moment, you will tomorrow or tomorrow's tomorrow. Together, we will get there.
This isn't the end. We will be in touch in the coming days with ways we can continue the fight together for justice. Let's support each other and lean on our shared values. Thank you, Nick |
