SIGN NOW: Trump must submit a pledge to avoid conflicts of interest >>
Pamela, President-elect Trump is already breaking rules meant to prevent government corruption and ensure a peaceful transition of power.
Right now, he's refusing to submit an ethics pledge stating that he will avoid conflicts of interest – a simple requirement that every other recent president-elect (including Trump in his first term) has followed to ensure a smooth transition. [1]
By refusing to sign on, Trump is leaving voters in the dark about the influence that Big Money donors and special interests are potentially trying to have on how billions of dollars will be spent by our government.
Sign the Petition: Trump must submit an ethics pledge – and Congress must close the loophole that he is using to avoid following this crucial rule.
Until Trump signs this agreement, he can get away with accepting unlimited contributions to his presidential transition – and doesn't even have to disclose who any of the donors are. [2]
Presidential candidates typically sign this agreement before the presidential election, reassuring the public that they're committed to preventing conflicts of interest and ensuring a smooth transition.
You see, this pledge is the first step in a peaceful transition of power – and experts are saying that these delays could put national security at risk. [3]
And this isn't the first signal of potential corruption in President elect-Trump's administration. His team has so far declined to allow the FBI to run background checks on hundreds of potential appointments for key jobs – opting instead to use private campaign lawyers to get "blanket security clearances." [4]
It's clear to us, Pamela: this disregard for ethics is dangerous. By refusing to follow these simple ethical standards, Trump is affirming our fears that Big Money donors and special interests will continue to have outsized influence over his policy and the federal budget.
Regardless of political beliefs, everyone can agree our democracy works better when rules are followed and respected. If you agree that Trump must sign this ethics code, sign our petition now >>
Thanks for all you do,
