Pamela,
Before the Thanksgiving holiday, I wanted to take a moment to express my deep gratitude for your support of the All On The Line campaign.
Like you, I am deeply troubled that Donald Trump was reelected as president of the United States.
But that's not the whole story of this election season and we cannot lose sight of the gains made at the state-level.
Last Wednesday, Justice Allison Riggs won reelection to the North Carolina State Supreme Court. North Carolinians sent a needed message: they are tired of ideologically driven judicial decisions that are inconsistent with the will of the people and want justices who will evaluate the cases before them in a fair manner that protects their rights and the rule of law.
With fair maps finally in place following the Allen v. Milligan Supreme Court ruling, voters in Louisiana and Alabama elected Members of Congress in two new districts that will equally reflect Black voters' political desires, as required by the Voting Rights Act of 1965. I'm proud that our affiliate, the National Redistricting Foundation, supported voters in both of these states in the lawsuits that have now ensured that their voices will be heard.
In Wisconsin, Democrats broke the Republican supermajority in the state senate. In Michigan, two pro-democracy leaders won their races for the state supreme court. Key state legislative seats in battleground states like Georgia and Pennsylvania flipped from red to blue.
These accountable and responsive state-level leaders will help hold the line against extreme MAGA Republicans as we work to restore fairness to our democracy and ensure every American has an equal say in our government.Don't get me wrong: There's a lot of work to do. I remain committed to fighting for our freedoms, our democracy, and a world where justice prevails.
I have no doubt that — if we stand together; if we walk together; if we believe as we always have in the power of our ideals and the forces of our shared community — not only our cause, but our country shall overcome.
We are the stewards of our democracy. And we have it in our power to shape where the journey goes next — as long as we put in the work.
The journey may be arduous, but we have no choice but to embark on it. And there's no team I'd rather be working alongside to do so.
This Thanksgiving, I hope you'll spend time with your loved ones and catch your breath. You're an important part of the All On The Line campaign and the fair maps movement, and we need you in this fight for fairness.
Happy Thanksgiving,
Eric H. Holder, Jr.
82nd Attorney General
