Congress is voting on whether to give Trump even more power this week. Urge them to vote NO!

H.R. 9495 would grant Trump new powers to attack nonprofits and stifle dissent.

Call Rep. Raskin at 1-844-551-7606 now to demand he vote NO on H.R. 9495, a bill to give Trump power to attack nonprofits!

Dear MoveOn member,

Last week, MoveOn and hundreds of organizations came together to defeat an anti-democratic piece of legislation in the House of Representatives that could punish nonprofits advocating for human and environmental rights.1 But it's resurfacing and will be voted on again this week. So it's critical that we come together again to defeat it once and for all.

This bill, H.R. 9495, would grant the president—namely, Donald Trump—sweeping, unrestricted power to direct the Treasury secretary to strip away the tax-exempt status of nonprofit organizations which they deem as "terrorist-supporting organizations." And there would fundamentally be no due process—nonprofits could lose their status without comprehensive evidence or explanation.

Will you take a minute to call Representative Jamie Raskin to urge them to vote NO on H.R. 9495 right now? Dial 1-844-551-7606 to be connected.

Unsurprisingly, it's already illegal to provide support to terrorist organizations. So what's really behind this legislation? Simply, it's an authoritarian play led by Republicans to expand the powers of the executive branch so the Trump administration can crush nonprofits for their political opposition and stifle dissent.

That's why more than 150 religious, reproductive health, immigrant rights, human rights, racial justice, LGBTQ+, environmental, and educational organizations, led by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), have come together to stop this legislation.2 This bill poses an existential threat to the crucial grassroots and legal organizations that will be at the forefront of resisting Trump's authoritarianism.

When you call, you can say something like this: "Hi, my name is ____ and I'm calling to urge Rep. Raskin to vote 'no' on H.R. 9495 this week. I oppose the legislation because it's undemocratic to allow the Treasury secretary to strip nonprofit organizations of their tax-exempt status without due process. This bill aims to stifle dissent and free speech, key tenants of our democracy and freedoms. Thank you."

When the House of Representatives voted on this legislation last week, 52 Democrats in Congress voted in favor of it. This time around, it's imperative that every Democrat rejects this legislation and sees it for what it is. And your making a call to urge your representative to vote against it is the only way to make sure that happens.

Dial 1-844-551-7606 to be connected with Rep. Raskin's office to demand he oppose the legislation and vote no on H.R. 9495 this week.

Thanks for all you do.
