Dear MoveOn member,
The Super Bowl is on February 8 and will be seen by millions of viewers. But this Sunday, January 25, millions will be glued to their TVs too.
That's because it's Conference Championship Sunday—with four NFL teams facing off in the AFC and NFC conferences, competing to determine who will head to the Super Bowl.1 Last year, the AFC conference championship game was the most-watched on record, with 57.7 million viewers.2
If we can quickly raise the funds, MoveOn will fly an aerial banner at the Mile High Stadium in Denver. Our message will be clear: "No ICE at the Super Bowl!" And we'll include a number to text for information about getting involved in MoveOn's campaign to stop ICE.
Can you chip in $9 to fund MoveOn's aerial banner? If you can afford it, please rush a donation now. We've got to act fast to pull off our campaign at the NFL's championship game this Sunday. (If you have saved your payment information with ActBlue, your donation will go straight through.)
In late September, the NFL announced that the award-winning artist Bad Bunny—who's from Puerto Rico—will headline the Super Bowl's halftime show, and his performance will be the first halftime show done entirely in Spanish.3,4 Bad Bunny has spoken out for justice in Puerto Rico and endorsed Kamala Harris for president in 2024.5 Recently, he explained that he didn't include mainland U.S. on his latest tour because he was worried that his fans would be targeted by ICE.6
Immediately after the announcement, right-wing commentators attacked Bad Bunny and the NFL—and the Trump administration echoed their hateful rhetoric, even threatening to sic ICE agents on the fans attending the Super Bowl.7 Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem told a right-wing podcaster that ICE enforcement will be "all over" the game, that only "law-abiding Americans who love this country" should attend, and that the NFL sucks "and we'll win and God will bless us."8 Noem's special assistant, Corey Lewandowski, was even more explicit when he said: "We will find you, we will apprehend you, we will put you in a detention facility, and we will deport you."9
ICE attacks are hurting and killing members of our communities. On New Year's Eve, an off-duty ICE agent killed Keith Porter in Los Angeles.10 On January 8, an ICE agent murdered Renee Good in Minneapolis.11 On January 16, ICE agents used tear gas and flash-bang munitions on a family's van with six kids inside; three of the kids, including the 6-month-old baby, had to be hospitalized.12
We are saying: No! No to ICE's brutality, no to ICE at the Super Bowl, and no to ICE in our communities!
Nearly 150,000 MoveOn members have already signed the petition to stop ICE from targeting people at the Super Bowl.13 Now, we need to urgently raise the funds to pay for our aerial banner campaign at this Sunday's NFL championship game in Denver.
With your help, we will fly an anti-ICE banner at the NFL championship game in Denver this Sunday. Please chip in $9 now—and help us send a strong message that will be seen by tens of millions. (If you have saved your payment information with ActBlue, your donation will go straight through.)
Championship Sunday is an incredible opportunity to get our message seen by millions, grab media attention, and pressure the NFL to keep ICE out of the Super Bowl. But we can launch this campaign only with immediate support from MoveOn members.
Thanks for all you do.
–Nakia, Cecilia, Seth, Alexis, and the rest of the team
P.S. In addition to our campaign to convince the NFL to keep ICE out of the Super Bowl, MoveOn is organizing with partners for the ICE Out for Good: National Day of Solidarity with Minnesota this Friday. In Minnesota, this day of action will consist of a statewide walkout and economic pause. Outside of Minnesota, communities are organizing for solidarity events—and to tell the Trump administration, Congress, all lawmakers, and corporations: We need to take action NOW to get ICE out of our communities for good.
