Pamela,
Extreme weather is becoming more frequent and more costly. But, that's no surprise -- scientists have been warning about the climate crisis for decades. Yet, one year into Trump's return to office, and we've never been less prepared to respond to extreme weather disasters.
Since his inauguration, Trump's administration:
- Cut disaster relief and gutted disaster preparedness funding, driving home insurance costs up faster nationwide;
- Laid off hurricane hunters, flood gauge operators, and wildfire prevention staff;
- Degraded weather forecasting that provides life-saving alerts;
- Weakened FEMA, leading nearly two-thirds of disaster calls to go unanswered;
- Paused wildfire and disaster resilience programs, increasing community risk;
- Cut HUD disaster recovery staff by 30%, slowing rebuilding efforts;
- And froze, delayed, or denied disaster aid to at least 13 states when floods, fires, and storms hit-- leaving communities waiting while costs piled up.
Disasters don't play politics. Relief shouldn't either. Pamela, sign on if you agree:
A year of Trump's failures have already raised costs across the country. Delayed recovery drives up insurance premiums, slows rebuilding, and hits Black and Brown communities especially hard, as families face higher risks from floods, wildfires, and extreme heat with fewer resources to recover. We need disaster preparedness and response that works for every community, every time. We can't accept a system that leaves families on their own after some of the costliest extreme weather events on record.
Add your name to demand disaster aid that is fast, fair, and politics-free.
Together, we can push leaders to protect lives, so no one is left behind when disaster strikes,
