Pamela: Last week, 50 senators, including Sens. Scott and Moody, effectively voted to greenlight Trump's criminal warmongering — allowing Vice President J.D. Vance to deliver a tie-breaking vote that halted a bipartisan war powers resolution (WPR) in its tracks.
It's already alarmingly clear this failure has only emboldened a reckless and lawless White House. Today, as Trump threatens Mexico, Greenland, and more countries across the hemisphere, the Senate's failure to put up roadblocks on his path toward endless wars is a shameful dereliction of duty.
This won't be the last opportunity for the Senate to assert authority on matters of war and peace, and just one vote would have changed the outcome of this WPR. If we want to win the next vote, Senators need to hear from constituents like you who disagree with their cowardly votes.

This loss stings, Pamela. Going into Thursday's vote, we had crucial momentum on the heels of 52 senators discharging Sen. Kaine's WPR, S.J.Res.98, from committee, which should've led to a debate by the whole Senate. It was the furthest a war powers resolution had advanced in Congress since 2020.
But, shocked by this bipartisan rebuke of his acts of war, Trump and his allies went on the offensive. Their all-out lobbying campaign was enough to pressure Republican Senators Josh Hawley and Todd Young to flip their votes and join 48 other senators to ultimately give Trump the razor-thin majority he needed to block this WPR from going any further.
That's why we can't stay silent. Every time we hold members of Congress accountable, we're showing up for our values, reminding them we're paying attention, and putting pressure on them to act with their constituents in mind.
With Trump threatening to occupy, depose, and bomb even more countries, this fight is far from over. In moments like this, accountability can go a long way toward building the anti-war coalition we, the people, deserve.
Together, we'll make sure lawmakers understand these votes do not go unnoticed, and that we will not forget their failure with the prospect of a new endless war growing closer by the day.
Thank you for working for peace,
The Win Without War team
