Pamela: Even as powerful members of Congress across the political spectrum demand answers for the Pentagon's illegal bombing campaign in the Caribbean and Pacific, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has vowed to press on.
The death toll is rising. And evidence is growing that orders to strike boats and then bomb the survivors in the Caribbean were both plainly criminal and directed from the very top. If we were at war, these orders would amount to a war crime. But we're not at war and none of this has been authorized — this is simply murder.
This campaign is the latest move by an out-of-control Defense Secretary who abuses his power, undermines the rule of law, and actively harms communities here and abroad, and we demand accountability.
Impeachment is how Congress must check Secretary Hegseth's reckless actions and stop him from inflicting future harm. Unfortunately, without sustained pressure from constituents, lawmakers are unlikely to act with the urgency necessary to meet the moment. That's where you come in, Pamela.

Pete Hegseth has always been unfit for the role of Defense Secretary. His nomination process made clear that his hubris and incompetence would threaten the safety and security of millions of people at home and around the globe. Unfortunately, that's exactly what we've seen play out since Hegseth was confirmed. Here's just a snapshot of actions he's taken:
- Purged judge advocate generals (JAGs), the legal officers who advise commanders on upholding the rule of law, from the military to remove "roadblocks"
- Ordered unauthorized airstrikes in Yemen that killed innocent people
- Endangered troops by sharing sensitive war plans for the Yemen mission in a Signal group chat, where Trump admin officials celebrated the strikes with fist bump emojis
- Signed off on Marine deployments to suppress protests in Los Angeles — which a federal judge has since ruled illegal
- Called a gathering of top generals where Trump touted his "war from within" and affirmed his intentions to use our "cities as training grounds for our military"
- Conducted dozens of illegal strikes targeting vessels in the Caribbean and Pacific that have killed more than 100 people
As the scandals mount, Hegseth's tenure is starting to unravel in front of our eyes. With enough pressure from activists like you, we can pull the threads that will oust Hegseth for good.
