The choice we make

We don't have a billionaire backstop — just this grassroots community. ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏  ‌͏

Pamela: From the beginning, Win Without War has made a deliberate choice that is vital to our work: we rely on small, grassroots donations from supporters like you as our largest single source of revenue.

Why? So that we're accountable to people — not major corporations, foreign governments, politicians or CEOs to shape our agenda behind the scenes.

Frankly, it would be much easier if we said yes to seven-figure checks from special interests. But we know the strings that come attached with them, and we know what we'd lose: Our independence.

Independence is not theoretical for us, it's tactical. Because we are powered by thousands of grassroots donors, we can go where our work will be most impactful. We can run risky, confrontational campaigns. We can challenge elected officials, call out those in power around the world, and take on the war lobby — even when it creates enemies in very high places.

This choice doesn't come without consequences, though. If grassroots donations slow down, it means we fall short of our fundraising goals: fewer campaigns, less staff, missing out on opportunities to take action, and losing the ability to respond quickly to whatever the Trump administration has thrown our way.

If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:

The truth is, many national security organizations don't have the independence we do. Our world is dominated by think tanks funded by governments, corporations, and weapons contractors. Very few have a powerful base of grassroots supporters. Fewer still have both grassroots power and the policy expertise to back it up with effective campaigning.

Win Without War does. And your support is what sets us apart.

It's what made our Know-Your-Rights campaign possible — a series of billboards connecting the servicemembers Trump and Hegseth are weaponizing against communities at home and abroad with resources in case they're given illegal orders.

These billboards came with hefty price tags — and their success has created new risks. Coverage of our billboards invited a flurry of hate speech, harassment, and intimidation from right-wing provocateurs.

We weren't sure how long we'd be able to keep our costly billboards up. We weren't sure if we'd be able to expand it to counter each of Trump's National Guard deployments or illegal boat strikes. We weren't sure if we could cover the risk assessments, legal consultations, and increased security required to keep going.

But we kept going because activists like you kept showing up, Pamela. When this movement comes together to take action against militarized streets, endless war, and weapons transfers, we don't have to ask permission. There is no single donor, no dark money group, no institutional funder who can pull the plug.

We know not everyone can donate, and days like this, where many organizations are reaching out to close the year strong, can be tough. Tens of thousands of people have recently signed petitions, made calls, sent letters, and taken to the streets in support of our urgent calls for peace and justice. Your dedication and support — however you join us — makes you an invaluable member of our community. Today especially, we want to say thank you for that work.

You are our superpower.

Thank you for working for peace,
The Win Without War team
