Pamela,
With Congress on recess this month, we wanted to share our plan to hold all those who voted to raise our costs, cut life-saving programs and healthcare, and repeal our clean energy investments accountable.
Before we get into it, if you've been looking for ways to hold them accountable, please raise your hand now to let us know. We have our work cut out for us, and we're going to need your help.
Just last month, Republicans in Congress chose to vote against their constituents' interests to pass "the largest upward transfer of wealth in American history." We're talking about those massive tax cuts for billionaires and billions of dollars in new subsidies for the Oil and Gas industry, all paid for by raising our energy prices, slashing hundreds of thousands of jobs in their own states, and taking a sledgehammer to the clean energy industry. And it all comes as communities across the country are facing extreme flooding, extreme heat, wildfires, and skyrocketing electricity bills.
Now, Congress is out of session for August recess, but -- and we can't emphasize this enough -- lawmakers are not off the clock.
Unlike when we were kids, this kind of recess isn't so much a time to hang out at the playground as it is a time to be hard at work, in their districts, talking to constituents to hear about our concerns and priorities.
No matter how they try to paint it, Congress is supposed to represent us. These lawmakers have one job: To vote for the interests of their constituents and the American people. But Republicans in Congress made a different choice. And now that they're back in districts, we need your help to hold them accountable.
This month, we're going to make sure Americans everywhere know exactly what these lawmakers have been up to on Capitol Hill. Pamela, will you raise your hand to let us know you're ready to join our Climate Core in holding them accountable? Add your name now, and we'll keep you in the loop with ways to take action.
Let's make it an August recess to remember, shall we?
More soon,
Climate Power
