Pamela, I've written a memoir of my life and times entitled Coming Up Short. I'm thrilled that the book will be out on Tuesday, August 5. The reason I wrote this book—at a time in American history when we're dealing with an authoritarian bully who has encouraged bullying throughout the nation and the world—is to share what I've learned about stopping bullies. In the book I wrestle with being bullied as a kid. I also wrestle with why a plurality of American voters chose Trump for president again in 2024. And why so many feel bullied today—bullied by people who are richer and more powerful than they are, and who take delight in abusing their power to become even richer and even more powerful. It's my story. It's also the story of America. I hope you find it helpful for understanding how, in the years ahead, we can combat bullies. And why I believe so passionately that we will. I also hope you draw insight and inspiration from ideas I offer for how to play the long game, toward a better and more decent nation and world. If you wish, you can preorder my new book from Bookshop.org, which supports local bookstores, or find it wherever books are sold. With many thanks, –Robert Reich P.S. If you want to read more from me, I hope you'll consider subscribing to my Substack newsletter. I write on Substack not just to inform (and occasionally amuse) you, but also to arm you with the truth—about how the system works and doesn't, where power's located and where it's lacking, and the myths and lies used by those who are blocking positive social change—so you can fight more effectively for the common good. I'll also keep my Substack updated with more information on this book, including times and places where I'll be signing books and giving book talks. (Already, events have been confirmed in San Francisco, CA, Houston, TX, and Cambridge, MA.) |
