Pamela -
My name is Tracey and I'm writing to you from Plakortis Earth Cafe in Jamaica.
As a Type 1 diabetic, the climate crisis is very personal for me. Major climate disasters not only threaten my community, but the loss of electricity means that my insulin — and my life — are at risk.
I've been working with my community over the past few years to build resilience to hurricanes and other climate disasters by equipping churches and schools with the tools to adopt solar power and renewable energy solutions.
In 2025 I'm hoping to take my activism to the next level — which is why I'm thrilled to share that I've been selected for the Renew Our Power gathering that 350 is organizing next year.
But the cost of travel, meals, and accommodations for applicants like me are extremely high, which is why I am asking:
As I prepare for this gathering, I feel both excited about all the training I will receive — but I also feel inspired by the way that 350 is holding this event.
350 is making sure everyday people like me can attend this gathering by offering:
- Stipends for childcare and missed wages while at home;
- Simultaneous translations during the event for non-native English speakers;
- And by the end of the event, 350 and the attendees will have helped physically build solar for the community where we are hosting the event.
The Renew Our Power gathering is all about how we can fight for a better future, which is why I'm hoping you can help activists like me get there:
By coming together, we can change our story, take a stand, and send a strong message that we are ready to embrace solutions that protect our people and our planet.
Thank you for chipping in what you can,
Tracey Edwards
