The past 24 hours have not been easy, Pamela.
We have had to face a terrifying, new reality that Donald Trump is going to be the next president of the United States — and all that is going to mean for our country and our planet.
I want you to know what 350.org is planning to do under a Trump presidency, and ask you to help us fund it.
Here's our plan:
- Vocal, visible, determined opposition to Trump's fossil fuel agenda. Starting even before inauguration, we will be stepping out for mobilizations that continue calling for a halt to new fossil fuel projects and a 100% renewable future for us all. Continuing to push back against any other pipelines will be at the top of this agenda.
- Rapidly grow our grassroots network. With a climate denier in the White House, work at the city and state level is that much more important. We're doubling down on helping local organizers fight and win climate campaigns on every level. We know this works: it's how fracking has been banned in places across the country, and millions moved out of fossil fuels with divestment votes.
- Build global pressure on world leaders. The climate crisis will not be solved by any one country or any one politician. That is why we are working with our global climate movement and activists around the planet to build pressure on world leaders at the upcoming COP29 UN climate talks.
- Committed solidarity with people and organizations most at risk. Trump will threaten the lives, health and safety of so many of our fellow Americans. Our movements need each other. We will stand with them, no matter what.
You, me, and all of us here at 350.org are a part of a global climate movement that is bigger than any one election and any one country. In the face of this deep disappointment, we draw strength from the collective determination and strength of the climate movement.
The renewable energy transition in the U.S. will proceed, with or without Trumpʼs support. We will not stop fighting to ensure that Trump's election creates a more resilient climate justice movement, one that realizes we cannot separate decarbonization, migrant rights, human rights, and demilitarization.
Here at 350.org, we aren't giving up. And we hope you won't either. Help us fund this work, and be a part of making it real.
With determination and gratitude,
Jeff Ordower
North America Director
