Pamela, if you're getting this email, you probably already have a plan to vote. After all, you're a Common Cause member because you pay more attention than most to what's going on in our democracy.
So, you probably already know your polling place, and whether you're casting your ballot by mail or on Election Day (and if you don't, use our free online tools to figure it out!)
Plus, if you live in a state that's tried to make it harder to vote since the last election, I bet you're aware of that fact – and probably took action with Common Cause to fight back.
Here's the problem, Pamela, not everyone is so lucky. It might be hard to believe, but millions of eligible Americans are either unaware an election is going on, uncertain about whether they can, will, or should vote, or liable to fall prey to some of the anti-voter schemes that extremist politicians have spent the past 4 years cooking up.
And if you believe – like I do – that democracy works best when we *all* have a say, I'm asking you to make a concrete investment today in protecting those voters' rights too.
How? By sponsoring an Election Protection volunteer – who we will train, equip, and place at a polling site in need.
Let's back up a bit – all year long, from the very first primaries until now, we've been recruiting people (you may even be one of them) who are willing to do what's right and defend voters this year.
And during those primaries, our volunteers identified key problem areas – polling places with long lines, new laws that confused voters, machines that break down, anything that could put peoples' rights at risk.
We worked directly with election officials to solve what we could – and got a lot done. But even after those efforts, there are still thousands of polling places across the country where we know for a fact that voters will run into trouble *if* we're not there to back them up.
That makes our mission clear: make sure every at-risk site has a friendly, pro-voter advocate – ready to watchdog for ANYTHING that could cost voters their voice in this year's all-important election.
The good news is, we have more than enough volunteer interest to cover all of our bases – and I'm pleased to report that we have signed up enough Election Protection volunteers to cover each of our high-priority assignments.
Here's the problem – many of these volunteers came in until the very last minute, which means we now must rapidly train thousands more people, assign them their shifts, and equip them with everything they need to be ready by Election Day.
Our state leads report that this costs us about $50 per person – so I'm asking you today if you will sponsor just one of these volunteers (or however many you can.)
For just $50, you will make an immediate, measurable impact on these uncertain voters – and ensure that we can live up to our ideal of a democracy where EVERY voice matters, no matter what. Can we count on your action today? >>
