Hi Pamela, One week ago, If/When/How's Repro Legal Helpline saw a 360% spike in calls once Trump was declared the winner of the 2024 presidential election. People's anxieties and fear were spiraling as they searched for information about the risks of traveling out of state or getting abortion pills, and needed someone to talk to. As If/When/How's legal services director told the Washington Post: As attacks on abortion seekers and pregnant people continue to rise across the country, we need to show up for them so they're not alone. The Repro Legal Helpline is free, confidential and available to anyone who has questions about the abortion laws in their state, who is worried about their legal rights, or who needs a lawyer in an emergency. Bookmark the Repro Legal Helpline so you have the resource if someone you know needs legal support for an abortion or pregnancy. When you're facing criminalization for abortion, having access to a lawyer early on can make a huge difference. It can mean not having to spend even one night in jail, knowing your rights *before* you interact with the police, or preventing the family policing system from taking your children away. Research shows that people who are criminalized for abortion face lasting harm for their lives and their families. Whether that's harassment in their community, loss of jobs, loss of housing, or facing deportation. And it's the same communities who are already targets of state violence—Black, Brown, Indigenous folks, and queer folks, people with low incomes, immigrants, and young people—are more likely to face criminalization. If/When/How and our Helpline are working every day to prevent that. You can help too by spreading the word about the Repro Legal Helpline in your community. In solidarity, If/When/How P.S. Chip in $10 so If/When/How can keep providing wraparound legal services for people who need abortions—today, tomorrow, and four years from now. |
