Pamela,
After a long night and many close races, Floridians are still processing the results of this week's election. While the future may feel uncertain in many ways, we are inspired to see that Amendment 1 and Amendment 6 were both defeated at the ballot box.
Thanks to the hard work of Common Cause Florida supporters like you, Amendment 1 and Amendment 6 failed to reach the 60% threshold needed to pass. This is a victory for democracy, ensuring that our school boards remain nonpartisan and that public financing remains in place to help new and more diverse candidates run for office based on their commitment to the people—not the size of their bank account.
Floridians spoke up and protected our long-standing public financing program, preserving a system that makes constituents more important to campaigns and makes it possible for candidates who understand the challenges of everyday people to run for statewide office. We sent a powerful message: democracy should reflect everyone, not just the wealthy.
At Common Cause Florida, we've been fighting to keep big money out of politics for nearly 50 years. This fight is more important than ever, and this win shows that when we work together, we can make a real impact.
We did it, Pamela. This victory is yours.
We're grateful for your passion, dedication, and support in working to create a democracy for all Floridians. The fight continues for a democracy that genuinely reflects and represents the diversity of voices across our state.
With appreciation,
Amy Keith, Executive Director
and the team at Common Cause Florida
