Friend, Congress just passed a short extension of funding for the Department of Homeland Security, which houses the Customs and Border Patrol and ICE. In the past month, ICE agents have killed two Americans who were exercising their First Amendment rights. This out of control agency must be restrained until it operates under the Constitution and with the constraints of every other law enforcement agency. Congress has given itself until next Friday to negotiate reforms to ICE. We need your voice to speak up now. Call both of your Senators and Representative at (202) 224-3121 and let them know you want them to effectively and maximally rein in ICE! Scripted phone calls and emails where everyone gives the same message aren't given the same weight as calls that feel like they're coming from the heart. Since we always want your individual voice to be heard, instead of giving you a script (we never do), here are some policies to consider: ICE out of Minnesota and other states NOW, and no more invasions or surges. No more 'Kavanaugh stops,' which allow agents to demand documentation without just cause. People should not be required to carry their papers in our democracy. End warrantless arrests and require judicial - not administrative - warrants. . Unmask ICE and CBP agents, require clear identification and body cameras, and end qualified immunity. End detentions and deportations of U.S. Citizens. Require DOJ and DHS to cooperate with states and cities investigating and prosecuting agents who broke the law. Repeal the $75 billion for ICE and the nearly $65 billion for CBP in Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill and restore that funding to health care (The Sanders Amendment which every Democrat and Independent and two Republican Senators voted for.) Ensure local control to allow communities to stop warehousing detainees and decide on the requirements of building - or not building - detention centers, Hold detention centers to strict accountability for human rights abuses.
