Pamela,
You want to know what's keeping us all up at night?
"If the [Supreme Court] invalidates Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, the decision could unleash chaos at every level of government. Multiple states ... are already plotting new rounds of redistricting that could severely undermine the political representation of voters of color."
That assessment from NYU Law Professor Kareem Crayton sums up just how much is at stake in the upcoming Supreme Court decision Louisiana v. Callais. Not only could a half century of progress on equal representation be wiped away, but it could immediately set off a new, devastating round of mid-decade redistricting in an attempt to stack the deck before the midterms on the backs of communities of color across the country.
Our grassroots team must be ready to jump into action in several states to respond on the ground as soon as this ruling comes down, which could happen any day now.
