Hi Pamela, my name is Jamie Edwards and I'm the president of Trader Joe's United. One of the crew members at my home store in Hadley, MA had an accident on the job and he's been unable to work. When Trader Joe's United has needed help, this community has stepped up―so I know we can count on you to help out my friend Nick. We've set up a GoFundMe to make sure he can access the money as quickly as possible. I'll tell you his story in a minute, but if you're ready to chip in now, every $5 or $10 helps. Nick Chehade is a crew member at Trader Joe's in Hadley, MA―the very first store where we won a union election. He's been with us for 2 1/2 years. On the day after Thanksgiving, Nick was at work when a manager performed maintenance on a piece of HVAC equipment. This piece of equipment was overdue for maintenance, and the work was supposed to happen when the store was empty of customers and crew. In this case, this manager failed to take the usual precautions and performed maintenance on this equipment with employees present. As a result, Nick received a blast of contaminated, particulate-filled smoke and dust right to the face. We don't know exactly what that air contained, but Nick has been unable to work since this accident. He is suffering from serious symptoms including nerve pain, headaches, and nausea and is currently on a leave of absence from Trader Joe's while he receives medical care. Nick is in need of immediate funds to cover rent, food, and other expenses because he cannot work, and does not know when he will be able to return to work. Can you help Nick afford his rent while he recovers from this workplace accident? Any amount helps. In solidarity, Jamie Edwards President, Trader Joe's United |
