Pamela, You might have heard my name for the first time recently, so I thought I should introduce myself. My name is Sarah McBride. I was born and raised in Delaware. I'm an optimist. I drink a lot of coffee. And I'm preparing to be sworn in to Congress. When I decided to run for office, I was driven by one simple reason: I had to fight for the people facing life's biggest challenges. People like my husband Andy. When Andy was diagnosed with cancer just one year into our relationship, I became his primary caregiver — with him through the ups and the downs, making sure that he had everything he needed, and in the end, holding his hand as he passed away. I know how difficult it is to balance a full-time job with taking care of someone I love because I lived it. Being a caregiver is the most important role I've ever had. Through our struggle, and sharing with others, I came across so many other families who were forced to choose between their job and their health care. Parents who had to go back to work days after giving birth. Family members who had to choose between their paycheck and their loved one's needs. My experience with Andy anchored so much of my work as a state senator in Delaware, but there is so much more our government must do to support people when hard times hit. That's why I ran for Congress, and that's what you can count on me to fight for in Washington. Some people want to divide our country with their agenda of hate. Some people want to distract me with fights over which bathroom I use. But I won't get distracted, and I won't stop fighting for the people who need our help. Now, I'm asking you to join this fight with me. Will you add your name to endorse me and my campaign so we can keep fighting for a government that works better for us all? Thank you, Sarah McBride Delaware's Congresswoman-elect |
