Re: CALL: The ultra-wealthy could win if we don’t mobilize

Our calls have worked!

Andra,

Our calls are working!

MoveOn members called Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) members in droves last week, and we're seeing results: CPC Chair Rep. Pramila Jayapal has said in no uncertain terms that caucus members will resist the efforts of a small handful of corporate-backed Democrats to derail President Biden's Build Back Better agenda. In a letter to Speaker Pelosi, Rep. Jayapal stated plainly that CPC members would withhold votes from the infrastructure bill negotiated with Senate Republicans unless the Build Back Better agenda is passed alongside it.1

This is a HUGE commitment to ensure our communities get the investments we need. If the smaller infrastructure bill passes first, progressives will lose their leverage to demand the resources we need for transformational change to make the ultra-wealthy pay their fair share, create jobs that combat climate change, create a pathway to citizenship, lower prescription drugs prices, and so much more.

Now we need to keep the calls coming—will you call Rep. Raskin at 866-233-2601, even if you have before, to say keep holding strong to pass the biggest, most transformative Build Back Better budget possible?

Here's an example of what you can say:

Hi! My name is Andra, and I'm a constituent from Chevy Chase. Thank you for working with the Congressional Progressive Caucus to ensure the Build Back Better budget makes big investments in our communities to create transformative change. Don't cave to the pressure from big corporations and the ultra-wealthy. We need your leadership to ensure Congress enacts President Biden's agenda without negotiating away resources that will provide much-needed relief as we continue to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

MoveOn staff are hearing that members of Congress are taking note of the increase in calls demanding affordable childcare, pathways to citizenship, tuition-free community college, affordable prescription drugs, and that Congress must deliver the president's full Build Back Better agenda. Your call today will help Rep. Raskin push back against pressure from corporations to prove he is supporting the needs of his constituents.

Call Rep. Raskin at 866-233-2601 today to ensure he stays strong against the enormous pressure from corporations and the ultra-wealthy to pass the biggest Build Back Better budget possible.

Big Pharma and corporations have launched an all-out attack on President Joe Biden's transformative Build Back Better budget. Rep. Raskin is facing incredible pressure to cave and drop his support for the plan. Call now at 866-233-2601 to tell him that you want him to hold strong and thank him for not backing down.

Dear MoveOn member,

Drug manufacturers, big banks, tech giants, Big Oil, and other tax-dodging corporations have launched what The Washington Post calls a "massive lobbying blitz."2 Their goal: kill as many key parts of the Democrats' $3.5 trillion economic plan as possible—especially the provisions that would require them to pay their fair share of taxes.

This is urgent—with the Build Back Better budget expected to get a vote in just over a week, representatives are negotiating over the final text right now. We have just days to ensure that no one caves to the pressure from big corporations and the ultra-wealthy, who are looking to keep hoarding their massive profits.

Despite the pressure, your representative, Jamie Raskin, is working to keep all of the planned investments for our communities in the final Build Back Better legislation. Will you call Rep. Raskin at 866-233-2601 to say thanks for pushing to keep all of the necessary investments in our communities, and to ask him to hold strong and not back down?

If we're successful, Congress will pass the largest investment in combatting climate change, creating jobs, expanding citizenship, supporting families, and lowering prescription drug costs that we've ever seen before.3 The Build Back Better budget will create energy efficiency and clean energy standards, good-paying union jobs, and universal preschool; save the average family $14,800 a year on child care costs; add dental, vision, and hearing coverage to Medicare; and provide so much more.4 These are essential reforms that we'll need to create a country where everyone can thrive, and to speed up the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

As we continue to face one extreme weather event after another, and as we grapple with a rigged economy that rewards wealth over work, the need for President Biden's Build Back Better agenda couldn't be more clear. We need to tackle climate change head-on; we need massive investments in the care economy; we need to provide citizenship to millions of undocumented immigrants; and we need to get working people the help they need now. Rep. Raskin is working with the Congressional Progressive Caucus in the House to ensure that the Build Back Better budget remains truly transformational and prevent selfish corporate interests from scaling it back.

Call Rep. Raskin today at 866-233-2601 to let him know that you need him to keep rising up against the corporate lobby machine and urge him to pass the biggest Build Back Better budget possible.

Thanks for all you do.
