When I was growing up, I was just about the worst baseball player Little League had ever seen. By the time I turned 12, I accepted the fact that I would never be able to hit a ball -- so I tried my hand at pitching. My teammate Henry and I practiced day after day for two years, and eventually, my curveballs finally started to well... curve.
Fast forward, and the guys who used to laugh at the small, skinny kid on the mound started striking out -- and I learned one of the greatest lessons about determination, hard work, and perseverance. That's what it took to master the "Hickenlooper Curve" -- and that's also what it took when this team helped flip my Senate seat in Colorado last year.
I'm taking that same level of hard work with me into next year's midterms, and I hope you will too. As the only organization responsible for electing Democrats from the school board to the Senate, the DNC is already putting in the elbow grease to scale up key programs that will help more Democrats win in the months and years ahead. But their efforts need your support.
So, will you pitch in $7 to the DNC before tomorrow's critical end-of-quarter fundraising deadline? We're counting on your early investment to make sure Democrats can compete and win everywhere.
My attempt at becoming a baseball star taught me another valuable lesson: You have to play the long game. My pals at the DNC have this saying that "there are no off years," and it couldn't be truer.
We're about a year out from the midterm elections -- and while that may seem a ways off, it's not. The work the DNC is doing right now is so important to protecting and growing our majorities next year.
By investing in grassroots efforts, voter protection, and on-the-ground organizing, our party is laying the groundwork for victory in 2022 and beyond -- because we all know you can't hit a grand slam with the bases empty.
To protect our slim majorities from Mitch McConnell and the rest of the national Republican Party, we need to be ready for any curveballs that might come our way -- whether it's this month, next spring, or on the eve of Election Day in the bottom of the ninth. So, I have to ask:
Will you be one of 6 supporters from your area to donate $7 to the DNC before tomorrow's quarterly deadline? Your donation will make sure our party is ready to handle anything national Republicans throw our way.
Batter up,
John
