Tell the White House: "Big Pharma's crooked 'vaccine czar' has to go." | Try to act surprised: In the midst of the worst pandemic in 100 years, Trump chose a drug company insider to lead the vaccine search. His 'vaccine czar,' Moncef Slaoui, refused to sell millions of dollars in drug company stocks when he was appointed. After intense scrutiny, he sold some shares -- but not until waiting for a price spike, netting himself a quick payday of more than $2 million. We need to trust that the vaccine program will be guided by public health, not Pharma profits. Slaoui's corruption makes that trust impossible. Tell the White House: Moncef Slaoui must resign or be fired. Slaoui owned nearly $10 million in stock from his work at GlaxoSmithKline, which he initially refused to sell. He owned another $10 million worth of stock in Moderna, which is also researching a coronavirus vaccine. That's where he made a quick $2.4 million, in a move that's been called "insider trading." And, at last report, he still has a major interest in a venture capital firm that invested in a number of companies working on vaccines. Trump hired Slaoui as a contractor to evade ethics laws. But former Office of Government Ethics director Walter Shaub says: "You can't have a contractor supervising government officials. If that's what's happening, the contract is a sham. It would make him a special government employee subject to the criminal conflict of interest law. Congress needs to investigate!" Tell the president: Moncef Slaoui must go. If Trump won't get rid of Slaoui, Congress should do it for him. Either way, this corrupt 'czar' has to go. Thanks, -Drug Prices are Too High |
