Dear Pamela,
One year ago today, The Labor Force sent out its very first email, in support of a Home Depot worker fired after attempting to organize a union at his store. A year later, we are still fighting for workers everywhere.
The Labor Force community is now more than 200k members strong and growing. We've raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for our labor partners and taken action with some of the most pressing campaigns across the labor movement. On our one year anniversary, can you make a donation to help us keep building a stronger labor movement?
Some highlights from what we've collectively accomplished in the last year:
-
When Amazon Labor Union-IBT Local 1 went on a historic strike at the end of 2024, we helped them raise crucial funds to keep the picket line strong and fight back when Amazon retaliated against strikers.
-
When New Seasons Market workers went on strike to demand the reinstatement of Randy, who was fired for helping a visually impaired coworker while off the clock, this community rushed donations directly to the union's strike fund, keeping the picket line going nine days strong.
-
After Trump attempted to defund the American Federation of Government Employees by ending the traditional paycheck deduction for union dues, we launched the Federal Worker Defense Fund to help the union fight back on all fronts.
The truth is, The Labor Force has been working with unions behind the scenes for years, offering everything from technological tools to strategic campaign support. The Labor Force public advocacy program (aka these emails!) grew out of our work with independent unions like Trader Joe's United (TJU).
As The Labor Force helped TJU grow its own community of supporters, we saw how public support turbocharged their campaign and helped Trader Joe's workers win against a multibillion dollar union-busting employer. From making donations to calling TJ's CEO, TJU's public advocacy program was a lifeline for the union. I know–because as a Trader Joe's worker and founding member of Trader Joe's United, I saw firsthand the power of bringing the public into our fight.
We realized it was time to scale that work and find a way to bring everyone into the labor movement. There was one thing we weren't prepared for–the unprecedented level of support, solidarity, and enthusiasm from you, the folks reading these emails. Your efforts have had a powerful, tangible effect on all of the groups we support.
As a movement, and as working class people, we are facing challenges that most of us have not seen in our lifetime. Together, as The Labor Force, we are fighting back. Please consider making a donation to support our continued work building a bigger, stronger, more powerful labor movement. Thank you.
Solidarity forever,
Maeg Yosef
