First, Elon Musk's brain child, Grok AI, was on Twitter calling itself 'MechaHitler," repeating antisemitic jokes and conspiracy theories, and sexually harassing other users.
Then, not even a week later, the Department of Defense gave Musk a $200 million contract to deploy Grok throughout the department.
Now, the Pentagon is rolling out Grok, along with other AI tools, for government use, without any public transparency on what kind of oversight will be provided to protect the public from AI "hallucinations" and fantasies.
This won't be Musk's last AI contract with the government, but this might be our most dangerous. We need to stop this contract now before things get worse. Tell Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to cancel Musk's $200 million AI contract now.
Within our Department of Defense, Grok would be critical to "support warfighters and maintain strategic advantage over our adversaries." We're expecting an AI system that proudly refers to itself as "MechaHitler" to be this strategic thinker? And we're entrusting Elon Musk, the richest and one of the most unstable, to have a hand in our national security?
Trump has already suggested cancelling contracts with SpaceX, Starlink and Tesla, and he's on to something there. These corrupt, inside deals are destroying our country. And let's be real, this won't be Musk's last AI contract with the government.
We can't entrust our national security with an unstable AI system; this is opening the door to even more dangerous applications of AI. These untrustworthy systems shouldn't be anywhere near our bombs. Tell Hegseth to stop MechaHitler from being part of our national security roster.
In solidarity,
Mike Phelan
